A good first 1/2 saw 3 tries scored by Jay Thompson (2) and Matt Hunt to a Tokanui penalty which gave POB a 1/2 time lead of 15 3. Playing downhill in the 2nd half Tok were unlucky not to score early. Their attack was repulsed and the first score of the 1/2 saw Cam McStay finish off a Jay Thompson break.
Midway thru the 2nd 40 Tokanui scored from a maul close to the line. Ben Erskine scored a try to make the game safe near the end while a number of forwards were involved in a tussle on the 22.
The POB forwards had to work hard throughout the game to contain the Tokanui 8 with plenty of ruck marks to show for their efforts.
WD Joinery POB player of the day was Hayden Pearce.
Tokanui club hospitality after the game was excellent. The bus trip on the way home included stops at the Tokanui Tavern where a couple of west coasters on a music tour started the evening playing banjos and the
Edendale pub where a couple of good wins were had on the pokies. A good start to the season for the boys but plenty to work on at training this week.
Big game this weekend is against Riverton who have started their season with 2 good wins. Southland Times Div2 report as below. http://www.stuff.co nz/southland-times/sport/6747556/Marist-Blues-third-round-clash-eagerly-awaitd
