The P.O.B U9 Blue team faced off against the P.O.B Black team at Lithgow St . The ground was frozen and bloody cold so thank you Mums, Dads & supporters for coming along. The Blue team wore mufti jerseys so we wouldn’t clash with Braggy’s boys. It was the 1st & hopefully last chance to see Jack Butler wear a Marist rugby jersey in anger.{ It brought a smile to his Grandad’s face}. Our tactics for day were to keep the ball away from their big forwards like Jayden Goble & Matthew Bragg & shift the ball wide. Things didn’t start well for us with Jayden especially dominating up front. Jayden is really developing as a footy player & it is good to see him with his ‘tough as nails’ approach to his game. With the guys lacking a bit of size & not playing to our strengths we went into halftime a try down. Some good work by Jacob Mika & Daniel Bremner kept us in the hunt. The 2nd half started off as the same with the Black team scoring. Then the Blue team turned their switch on & started playing some footy. With some good defensive work & some excellent team work on attack we scored some beautiful team tries. Overall in trying conditions both teams played an entertaining game of rugby. The team was well led by Lachie Nimmo; with Jacob Mika ; Daniel Bremner & Sam McDonald making some big game plays. Lucy Hall & Jacob Kura are showing what good skills they have with Lucy’s passing & Jacob’s step setting up a fantastic team try. Flynn Jackson again organised things well from halfback. Sean Dockerty & Jack Butler played a more aggressive game who along with Sam teamed up to counter Jayden’s lineout driving. Great work guys. But the biggest performance from my point of view was Joshua McDonough. With Cullen McLeod off with the flu { His Mum told me Dad had a bigger case of man flu & Mums there is no worse sickness than that} young Josh had to move from centre to the front row. He not only excelled in the tight stuff but still did his other work as well & was in charge of the line outs. Great stuff Josh. Overall this was the tough game the guys needed after some pretty easy victories so I’m happy with the ticker the team showed on Saturday. We will be having a week off for the holidays & get back into training Thursday the 12th July. Have a good holiday guys & look after your parents . Player of the day – Flying Flynn Jackson. | |
