Stags v Otago & Club Senior Prize Giving...

8/28/2014

Southland Stags v Otago Razorbacks,  weather is looking pretty good for game day as well.  Here is the schedule for the games at Rugby Park - will be a pretty respectable number of POB players spread over the 3 rep teams.

3pm        Southland Metro V Otago
5:35pm   Southland Stags V Otago
7:30pm   Southland Under 19s V Otago Under 19s

Keep an eye on the Southland Times for the some great deals for getting kids into the game.

Don't forget the POB Senior prize giving 2pm at the clubrooms if you want to start and end the day with a BBQ with the added bonus of the club supplying a bus to/from the game.

Other news... due to Crazy & Cabbage not being on the Stags hooking roster this season looks like Andrew Hore has been dragged off his farm at at Patearoa to bolster the Stags hooking depth.

Also been a whisper that the Stags are going to come out in a special jersey for the big game v Otago, some sort of big Stags head on the jersey was mentioned but believe it when you see it...
In anticipation of a magnificent Stags victory El Presidente Regan Johns has scheduled  the POB Senior Prize giving for the Sat afternoon at the clubrooms - here are the details...

PIRATES OLD BOYS PRIZE GIVING – SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST AT 2PM FOLLOWED BY THE STAGS VS OTAGO 5:35PM

Greg (Ham) Hamill (oh the irony!) has donated a pig for the end of year. So we will be cooking up the bacon, chops and ham steaks before and after the game.

The club will supply a bus to and from the game.

The format -

2pm Prize giving + Meat raffle (its PORK!)

Club to put a pork feed on

4:45pm Bus leaves

Post game bus returns to club and a fry up afterwards

Bring Kids, mates and enjoy the day! Tickets will have to be purchased at the ground or beforehand no ticket sales at the club.

Regards, Regan Johns

President POB Rugby

Good win by the All Blacks at the weekend, should put the Wallabies on the back foot for a while.

Next big game on the calendar is the yearly battle of the feral game animals - Southland Stags v Otago Razorbacks... kickoff is 5:35pm Sat arvo at Rugby Park.

In anticipation of a magnificent Stags victory El Presidente Regan Johns has scheduled  the POB Senior Prize giving for the same afternoon at the clubrooms - here are the details...

Not pretty but 2 wins from 2 games and 8 points on the board is a good start. With the Thurs nite game all done and dusted the Stags will be spending the next few days freshening up and getting ready to take on Otago.

Good luck to the Southland BHS 1st XV who take on Otago BHS in the Fulton Hogan 1st XV final in Dunedin on Saturday.

Thursday night footy...

The Stags are up against North Harbour 7:35pm on Thursday, should be a good game if the conditions are ok so a good excuse to hit the couch and get a game under the belt before the weekend starts.

With Jason Rutledge joining Crazy in the injured bicep club POB & Fiji hooker Tua Tuapati will be stepping up to fill the gap.

Stags 1st five Lima Sopoanga was a classy act in the game against BOP last week, if you get a chance get down to one of the Stags home games and see him in action.

All the info re the Stags season is on the Rugby Southland website, there is also a Rugby Southland Facebook page which is better for day to day news re what the Stags are up to and what else is happening on the rep rugby scene.

Got the Stags...

Good win for the Stags last night at Rugby Park v BOP who are always a dangerous opposition. Not much between the teams but the Stags had the better game plan and the better goal kicker.

Fight for Kidz is on at the stadium tonight. Featuring in the line up are a couple of current POB boys - Jeff Dakers & Rex Thompson.

Picking a 3rd round win to Jeff.

The fight between Rex Thompson and Nicky Herbert is harder to pick. Rex has the better tattoo's but after withstanding years of work place bullying and still refusing the offer to sign up for the POB Div2 team Nicky might just have the mental toughness to get the win on a points decision.

All Blacks v Wallabies - 10pm tonight.

Yeah... the Stags 2014 NPC campaign kicks off tonight at Rugby Park.

With the weather the way it is at the moment take a raincoat or get a seat in the stand.

The Crowd Goes Wild showed the Bay of Plenty mascot (Hori BOP?) hitch hiking down from the Bay to attend the game, hope he has got plenty of warm clothes in that bag.

Look in the Southland Times for the 'kids get in free' voucher - great deal, buy an adult terrace ticket and 2 kids under 11 get in for free...

GO THE STAGS!!!

After 3 weeks of Sunday games in Gore, Invercargill & Riversdale the North Town under 38 & 48kg teams won the trophies for their respective competitions. The North Town teams are made up of players from Pirates Old Boys, Star & Waikiwi and took on South Town plus teams from all over Southland.

The North Town U48kg team was well coached by POB U13 coaches Craig Hall & Phil Taylor with manager Terry Haywood (Waikiwi) doing a great job behind the scenes. This team played 4, won 4 with no points scored against them.

Scoreline from the preseason game up in Alex... Otago 12 Stags 8...

The next best thing to club footy kicks off next week - the ITM cup... the POBrugby.com website will keep you up to date each week with what is going on around the province with plenty of POB players spread thru the Southland rep teams that are selected post season...

Yeah and poplar opinion seems to agree that penalty dished out against Ritchie in the Super XV final wasn't the right call but thats the way it goes.

U65, U48 & U38kg rep rugby on up at Riversdale on Sunday, first game kicks off at 11:20...
