Meikle believes if there was more Jimmy Affleck's floating around Southland club rugby would be booming.
Affleck brought up his 250th game for Pirates-Old Boys when they took on Star at the Les George Oval on Saturday.
Pirates and Old Boys merged in 2001 and Affleck has played in all but one of the club's 17 seasons after he played his first game for Pirates-Old Boys in 2002.
His first coaches in 2002 were Stu Harvey and Paul Cosgrove and his highlight was in 2006 winning the Galbraith Shield.
Meikle said he played for the right reasons, in terms friendship and club loyalty, and that made him the perfect club member.
Not surprisingly, at 249 games, Affleck has played the most games for the club, with David Hall sitting in second.
At 35 Affleck has indicated he is not done yet and is likely to feature when the 2018 season rolls around as well.
It has been a difficult 2017 season for Pirates-Old Boys as they have battled for playing numbers for various reasons.
It is highlighted by the fact they are set to operate with 16 players in their game against Star this week, as they did last week against Woodlands.
Hence why Meikle suggested they could do with some more club heros like Affleck.
Affleck's milestone will be regonised on Saturday but it will be celebrated the following weekend at Pirates-Old Boys' home game against Blues.
It doubles as the club's lip sync night which may mean the club will need to purchase a few more milkshakes for that evening's fun.
